Computing algebraic topological invariants

The field of computational topology is a new and exciting discipline, combining
ideas from algebraic topology and theory of algorithms. We are interested
in computing certain invariants, such as the homology groups, of a space,
given only a sampled representation of that space in the form of a point-cloud.
Such algorithms may find application in the context of machine learning, as well
as shape descriptors.
